IATEFL holds its International Annual Conference & Exhibition every spring, which is attended by around 2000 ELT professionals from 70+ countries. It involves a 3.5 -4-day programme of over 300 talks, workshops and symposiums and, in addition to giving delegates a chance to meet leading theorists and writers, and exchange ideas with fellow professionals from all sectors of ELT, it enables them to see the latest ELT publications and services in a large resources exhibition involving around 70 ELT-related exhibitors.

The 46th IATEFL Annual International Conference and Exhibition will be in Glasgow 19th-23rd March 2012, in the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre.

27. Arbeitstagung des AKS an der Universität Mannheim vom 1. bis 3. März 2012
„Gekonnt, verkannt, anerkannt? – Sprachen im Bologna-Prozess“
GEKONNT? VERKANNT? ANERKANNT? Wie lässt sich die Rolle der Fremdsprachen in den modularisierten
Studiengängen am treffendsten beschreiben? Der Bologna-Prozess hat zweifelsohne
die deutsche Hochschullandschaft und damit auch die Fremdsprachenausbildung im akademischen
Kontext verändert. Und er ist längst nicht abgeschlossen: die Universitäten befinden sich immer
noch mitten in der Umgestaltung ihrer Studiengänge und Organisationsstrukturen. Zeit für eine
Bestandsaufnahme: Die 27. Arbeitstagung des AKS in Mannheim soll eine Zwischenbilanz aus Sicht
der universitären Fremdsprachenausbildung ziehen.
l Was hat der Bologna-Prozess für die Integration des Fremdsprachenlernens und -lehrens in
das Studium gebracht?
l Wie steht es um die internationale Vergleichbarkeit der Ziele und Abschlüsse im Bereich der
Fremdsprachenausbildung?
l Hat der Bologna-Prozess den Status der Fremdsprachenausbildung an Hochschulen verändert?
l Welche Risiken, aber auch welche Möglichkeiten ergeben sich aus dem Bologna-Prozess
für die universitäre Fremdsprachenausbildung?
In den Arbeitsgruppen werden Themen wie Mobilität, Fachsprachenausbildung, technologiegestützter
Fremdsprachenunterricht, Schlüsselkompetenzen und kulturelle Aspekte der Fremdsprachenvermittlung
im Fokus stehen.
Dabei wird auch der Fremdsprachenausbildung in Master- und Lehramtsstudiengängen sowie der
Qualifikation von Sprachlehrkräften an Hochschulen und der Kooperation zwischen Sprachenzentren
und Fremdsprachenphilologien verstärkte Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet werden.

Mission Statement

The purpose of EALTA is to promote the understanding of theoretical principles of language testing and assessment, and the improvement and sharing of testing and assessment practices throughout Europe.

Rationale

Europe is a multilingual continent, where the diversity of languages, cultures and traditions is highly valued. Part of such diversity is diversity in education systems and assessment traditions and values. Given such diversity, the testing and assessment of language proficiency is a crucial component of language policies which aim to respect linguistic and cultural diversity, whilst seeking to ensure that the highest possible quality is guaranteed of the measurement of educational outcomes and of language learning and language proficiency in particular

Recent developments in Europe, particularly associated with language policy in the European Union and the Council of Europe, including the dissemination of the Common European Framework and the European Language Portfolio, have highlighted the need for a European language testing association, which speaks for testers in Europe and which has no commercial affiliation or aims.

EALTA considers that the enhancement of quality in language assessment and testing is best achieved through international cooperation. EALTA believes that international co-operation can help individuals, institutions and nations learn from each other without any diminution of their cultural autonomy.

EALTA aims to represent those involved in language testing and assessment at a European level, including in the European Union and the Council of Europe. "
